As part of our Save Money, Save Energy philosophy, we offer you a couple of lighting alternatives as a way to manage electricity usage and lower your electric bill.

Motion Lighting

Motion lighting fixtures identify movement which triggers the light to turn on when movement is detected and turn off when movement has stopped. Not only will this feature save you money, it can also increase your sense of security when coming home in the dark. Motion detector lighting can be installed around the outside and inside of your home and/or office.

Solar Lighting

Since solar lighting runs on sunlight, if your neck of the woods has sunny days, you’ve got light. With solar lighting you have the initial cost of the fixture and the occasional cost of replacing the rechargeable batteries. You may want to have electric backup on the not so sunny days. But unless you live in a cave, solar lighting will save you some money – how much depends on how often the sun shines Nellie.

Examples of Motion, Solar and Solar Powered Motion Light Detectors can be found on this page Amazon.

Dow Environment Protection Joins Ameren Missouri’s Pure Power Program

St. Louis, Mo. (May 2011)—Ameren Missouri’s Pure Power announced today that Dow Environment Protection has agreed to support the development of new renewable energy sources via the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) through the Pure Power program.

Dow Environment Protection’s commitment to this voluntary program will help prevent approximately 18,999 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2), a leading greenhouse gas, from entering the atmosphere each year. This is equal to the CO2 reduction provided by taking 1.6 cars off the road for a year.

Pure Power is Ameren Missouri’s voluntary renewable energy program and the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2008 New Green Power Program of the Year Award Winner. It gives residential customers the option to add an extra 1.5 cents/kilowatt hour to their monthly bills, offsetting up to 100 percent of their energy usage with clean, renewable energy. Commercial and industrial customers, like Dow Environment Protection, participate by buying “blocks” of Pure Power, paying an additional $15 a month for every 1,000 kilowatt-hours used. Pure Power funds are then used to purchase Renewable Energy Certificates from Green-e Energy-certified wind farms and other types of renewable energy projects. In 2009 and 2010, 100 percent of the RECs purchased for the Pure Power program came fromMissouri wind farms. This is projected to be true again in 2011.

Company’s purchase of 12 blocks per year of Pure Power makes it an Ameren Missouri Pure Power Leader–a designation reserved for companies, governments or other large users of electricity who agree to offset at least 5 percent of their energy usage through Pure Power purchases.

For more information about Ameren Missouri’s Pure Power program, please visit www.AmerenMissouri.com/PurePower or contact Cindy Bambini at314.480.3554. Pure Power is Green-e Energy Certified by the not-for-profit Center for Resource Solutions. Green-e is the leading renewable energy certification and verification program in theU.S.
